Out Of Many, One!

Three days ago, on February 12, Tom Homan, the so-called ‘Border czar,’ announced a “significant drawdown” of ‘immigration officers’ (aka, ICE, ERO, USBP, etc.) in Minnesota.

As it was intended, this made headlines everywhere.

We take a more cautious view.

What concerns us is not just what was very carefully said, but what was not said, plus the penchant for the Trump Administration and it accomplices to always choose being clever over being smart.

Let’s take a hard look at what Homan (the alleged recipient of $50k cash in a Cava take-home bag 18 months ago – strange how that investigation was dropped.) actually said today on CBS’s Face the Nation. They have ‘reduced’ the ICE invasion force of over 3,000 to something less than 2,000 (the pre-invasion size was about 150), and that a “small” (!) ‘security force’ will remain. He also said that those forces pulled out could return, depending “on the situation.”

Note what Homan did not say:

1. The total number of DHS/ICE personnel to remain in Minnesota;
2. What agencies will these people come from?
3. That DHS/ICE is going to stop their illegal and unconstitutional tactics;
4. That he supports full and independent investigations by both Federal and local law enforcement agencies of the murders of Renée Goode and Alex Prettie, and the injuries, deaths, and violations of constitutional rights and due process of others, especially those illegally held by ICE et al.

In short, what his careful phrasing and omissions are really saying is that everything will continue as before; he just hopes that attention will shift away. In short, a carefully worded ‘there’s nothing to see here now, move on.’

Yeah, right.

ICE and its hangers-on will continue their smash-and-grabs of people, abductions of children, attempts to intimidate U.S. citizens, and try to hide their faces and actions behind masks and the cover of darkness.

We suspect, they not only think we are dumb and gullible enough to believe them, but they also planning to sweep back in in a few weeks when the community has let it’s guard down, much like Russia sends ‘double-tap’ missile strikes into Ukraine cities – one missile hits, causing death and destruction, the a second hits a few hours later, try to kill the people responding.

This is their idea of being clever.

Let’s be smart, instead, and keep our guard up. This isn’t over. Perhaps they have lost a battle, but nowhere in his statement did Homan say they have given up.
